2023 Toyota 4Runner Redesign, Hybrid, Photos. The upcoming 2023 Toyota 4Runner is a rugged mid-size SUV that will arrive with additional refreshments. Moreover, 4Runner is one of the oldest models in Toyota’s lineup of SUVs. It comes with a body-on-frame architecture, and it provides an excellent off-road ability. Like any other SUV, 4Runner also has its pros and cons. For instance, its interior sports plenty of plastic materials, and its V6 engine is far from efficient.
On the other hand, its styling is superb, and the list of standard equipment is above average. Thankfully, Toyota will upgrade its model for 2023. New edition is available, and further styling improvements are available. The interior will host classic mid-cycle refreshments, but new powertrain won’t happen. The sales of the 2023 4Runner will begin by the end of the current year.
2023 4Runner Facelift
New 2023 Toyota 4Runner will host a couple of exciting exterior changes. For a start, this SUV will arrive with a new standard LED headlights. The off-road SUV also comes with reshaped taillights, and the front grille seems to be wider than before. Whatsoever, the grille now looks closer to the grille you can see on the new RAV4 model.
Design language remains recognizable, and bodywork won’t drastically change. The TRD Pro trim level will host the most significant updates. This variant now comes with new Lunar Rock exterior paint. On top of that, new black wheels are available, along with the Nitto Terra Grappler tires. Dampers are retuned so the off-road experience will be more enjoyable.
Interior Upgrades
Interior updates are visible at first glance. However, the 2023 Toyota 4Runner won’t significantly change inside the cabin. From what we know, the Japanese manufacturer will deliver new stitching and new all-weather floor mats. The cabin design is far from perfect, and 4Runner is still covered by different cheap plastic materials.
The third-row is optional, but 4Runner is a five-seat SUV in its regular configuration. Cargo area is very flexible and versatile. Tech-wise, an eight-inch touchscreen is standard but physical buttons are still present in the same amount as before. For 2023, 4Runner will only deliver updates for the infotainment system, and this SUV will offer more driver-assistance aids.
Engine Specs, Transmission, MPG
The 4Runner SUV offers a 4.0-liter V6 engine. Interestingly, but a five-speed automatic transmission is still available. The 2023 Toyota 4Runner can be had with either rear, four, or all-wheel-drive systems. The SR5 trim is the base variant that offers a standard rear-wheel-drive setup. All other trim levels are offering selectable part-time four-wheel-drive configuration. A manual two-speed transfer case is in the offer, and it comes with a low-range setting.

Limited trim provides a full-time all-wheel-drive system with a Torsen differential. Fuel economy has been rated at 16 mpg in the city and 19 mpg on the highway. As we said, this engine is far from efficient. For that reason, the latest rumors are predicting a new 3.0-liter six-cylinder turbocharged output with 335 hp and 365 lb-ft of torque.
