According to news, the 2023 GMC Canyon will receive a complete overhaul for the following year. The redesigned model will look more attractive, and it’s entering its third generation. It will also ride on an updated version of the same GMT 31XX platform used on the second-gen model.
The updated architecture will also be used on the newer Chevy Colorado. We expect the 2023 Canyon to be offered with the same powertrains as the outgoing model. There are precisely three engine options.
2023 GMC Canyon Facelift
As we said, the third generation 2023 GMC Canyon will receive a complete overhaul. It should look refreshed thanks to the new front fascia. Also, from the latest information, the upcoming pickup will ride on the updated version of the same GMT 31XX platform. This premium model is recognized for its massive grille, LED running lights, and projector-beam headlights.
However, the refined Denali is the best option if you are looking for something unique. This variant has 20-inch wheels, a polished exhaust tip, and a larger new grille. Also, the manufacturer offers an AT4 model with a much rugged appearance enhanced by prominent red recovery hooks.
Interior Should Be More Roomy
On the inside, the 2023 GMC Canyon, thanks to the updated version of the GMT 31XX platform, will provide a more roomy cabin. Whether choosing either the Extended Cab or Crew Cab, the GMC Canyon can comfortably fit five passengers.
On top of that, GMC added very supportive seats suitable for large folks. The upgraded infotainment system touchscreen is present like the upholstery materials include vinyl, cloth, and leather. Other features that come standard are onboard Wi-Fi, Apple CarPlay/Android Auto, two USB ports, and a power driver’s seat. In addition, new active safety features are available like Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Zone Alert, etc.
2023 GMC Canyon Powertrain Specs, Towing Capacity
Benet the hood, the 2023 GMC Canyon will offer three powertrain options. The base powerplant is a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder engine that’s making 200 horsepower and 191 lb-ft of torque. It’s available with a 6-speed automatic transmission and eider with two- or 4-wheel-drive (2WD, 4WD).
We generally prefer the 3.6-liter V6, which produces 308 horsepower and 275 lb-ft of torque. This engine is teamed with 8-speed automatic transmission. The last engine is a 2.8-liter turbodiesel, which produces 181 horsepower and 369 lb-ft of torque. Like the base one, this unit also uses a 6-speed automatic transmission. All the Canyon models are available to tow a maximum of 7,700 pounds.
Release Date and Price
We expect the 2023 GMC Canyon to arrive in the second half of the 2023 calendar year. The new pickup is heavily revised, featuring a completely new exterior and interior. But, on the other hand, the engines will remain unchanged, and that’s pretty sad news.
Many believed that General Motors would introduce some of the new machines, but unfortunately, it will not happen, at least for now. The upcoming GMC Canyon will be assembled at the GM Wentzville factory in Missouri by GM USA. As for the price, we should expect a slight increase. The current pickup starts at $26,400, and it can go up to $45,000 for Denali trim.
