A hot version of the Kona SUV is coming to the markets. The upcoming 2023 Hyundai Kona N has been spied a week ago doing road tests at the Nurburgring. Sporty subcompact SUV was confirmed back in 2018 and Hyundai said the company is working on the Kona N version. Now, this is the first time we are seeing this model on the road.
The spy photos are showing numerous upgrades over the base Kona model. That includes various changes in terms of design and terms of mechanics. The interior is still quite a mystery, unfortunately. As for the performance, Kona N will most likely deploy a 2.0-liter turbo-four engine. The new model will go on sale next summer.
2023 Kona N Spy Shots
More than a month ago, the regular 2021 Kona model has been spied. Now, the 2023 Hyundai Kona N is also caught on the cameras. The two models are very similar. However, Kona N features a sportier stance and it offers lower ride height. The prototype comes with a dual-tip exhaust system and new brakes with red calipers. Moreover, the openings in the front fascia seem to be larger than on the regular model.
We must say that the Hyundai succeed in distorting the vehicle’s shape by using extra black cladding and camouflage wrap. However, some parts are more than easy to spot. Five-spoke wheels are a notable upgrade, along with the larger roof spoiler. On the other hand, it is hard to predict a vehicle’s styling and small exterior refinements that should depart from the regular Kona model.
Interior Enhancements
Sadly, interior details are not available yet. However, we have details for the new 2021 Kona. Moreover, we know what Hyundai’s “N” division has to offer on the inside. The all-new 2023 Hyundai Kona N will get the same treatment, no doubt about it. That includes various improvements such as new gauges and sportier steering wheel. Even the seats will be sportier and more supportive.
Various accents and unique contrast stitching are also available. We think the interior design and seating layout won’t be changed at all. Expect a larger 10.25-inch center stack display, along with the new 8-inch touchscreen. Kona N will surely offer more driver-assistance aids as standard and more chrome accents.
Two Different Outputs
New 2023 Hyundai Kona N will most likely get the same powertrain as the Veloster N and i30 N models. After all, a dual-tip exhaust system is the best proof we need. The most likely candidate is a 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four engine with 246 hp. Moreover, the same engine can produce up to 275 horsepower in some versions.
To compare, regular Kona delivers “only” 147 horses or 201 horses with an electric motor. South Korean manufacturer will most likely opt for a standard all-wheel-drive system, instead of the front-wheel-drive setup. On top of that, a six-speed manual and dual-clutch transmission will be in the offer.
2023 Hyundai Kona N Price and Release Date
If the reports are correct, the new 2023 Hyundai Kona N will make its debut next summer. The sales will start shortly after that, in the third quarter of 2021. Sporty subcompact SUV will cost around $35,000 and Hyundai plans to sell it in the US as well.
