Not only upfront, but aerodynamic optimization is also performed on the rear fascia, especially through large and prominent spoilers. The curved sculptural body channels the airflow to the back body on the side. As a result, the third generation aerodynamics 308 has a drag coefficient (Cd) of 0.28. Peugeot built the latest 308 utilizing the EMP2 platform, which was also developed for the Citroen C5 Aircross, Vauxhall Grandland X and DS 7 Crossback.

For this generation update, Peugeot brought i-Cockpit design elements to the 308 interior layouts like other new models. A curved dashboard design was introduced for the 308, in which the cockpit side was designed to resemble a jet aircraft. The steering wheel shrinks in dimensions, accented with a flat bottom that makes it more sporty with a performance orientation. The 10-inch touch screen in the middle of the dashboard becomes the centre of the infotainment system and the driving aids, a feature that is no longer accessed via physical buttons. The more affirming the driver-oriented style, the corner of the infotainment screen is tilted towards the driver.

2023 Peugeot 308 Engine Performance

Implementing a new platform called EMP2 in 308 allows for some drivetrain options and variants. Peugeot now offers petrol, diesel and hybrid engine options for the latest 308. Two plug-in hybrid engines have been available since launch, combining four-cylinder turbo engines powered from 150 hp and 180 hp, accompanied by a 110 hp electric motor. The hybrid variant relies on an 8-speed automatic gearbox and a 12.4 kWh lithium-ion battery for electric power up to 60 km.

While all plug-in hybrid variants are front-wheel driven only, the 4-wheel drive (4WD) option comes for the PSE variant as the fastest. The variant, which also implements a hybrid system, is claimed to store up to 304 hp of engine performance.

The non-hybrid variant, available in the option of a 1.2-litre three-cylinder gasoline engine that has the highest power of 129 hp. As for the diesel version, the 1.5-litre engine also offers 129 hp of power. For the fastest variant of gasoline engines, it has the privilege of only being delivered in a 6-speed manual transmission.

The development direction and updates Peugeot applied to the 308 immediately to make it more competitive in the latest VW Golf presence, which also has a hybrid variant. Peugeot may also make a full-electric version for the 308. And don’t forget, this class still has competitors such as BMW 1 Series, Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Honda Civic and Ford Focus
