The forthcoming 2023 Ford Edge is about to introduce serious changes and upgrades. The 2023 Edge comes as the next-gen model so we expect to see a lot of novelties. Some of the changes are significant, so this SUV will gain exterior redesign and complete interior revamp. As you probably know, Edge started its journey in 2007.
The first-gen model lasted for eight years and the second-generation Ford Edge was present since 2015. Now, the third-gen Edge is in the works. Blue Oval manufacturer clearly feels the time for more dramatic upgrades has come. Edge will continue with good sales as it is one of the most popular options in its segment. The ST variant will also arrive, so here’s everything you need to know.
New Architecture
New 2023 Ford Edge is about to introduce a new platform. Blue Oval is reportedly working on a CD6 architecture. The same structure underpins the Explorer SUV, but Edge’s platform will have to suffer small modifications. The reason is obvious as Edge and Explorer models are not the same in terms of size. We don’t expect to see a longer Edge and especially not a taller Edge.
The CD6 platform is built on the rear-wheel-drive system and it comes with a low center of gravity. As a result, the new Ford Edge will be comfier and easier to handle. Of course, dimensional changes are a possibility but don’t expect a significantly bigger SUV.
2023 Ford Edge Redesign
A new design will surely happen. The 2023 Ford Edge will wear a recognizable design language. However, a new design will include new exterior features. The front fascia will offer a new shape of the headlights, and taillights in the back will get the same treatment. The front grille wears more chrome accents and it seems to be a wider unit.
The vehicle’s shape won’t change and we already said that the dimensions could change, but not drastically. New Edge will feature a sloping roof design and new wheels. The side profile wears sharper bodylines and new exterior colors will become available too.
Interior Overhaul
The interior of the all-new 2023 Ford Edge will also suffer a couple of essential upgrades. The arriving model will once again offer impressive interior design. Ford will improve the comfort and the cabin appearance. New upholstery is in the works and Edge will introduce additional chrome trims. Some plastic materials are gone and Ford will replace them with more upright materials.
On top of that, Blue Oval plans to reduce the number of buttons. A new touchscreen option is a possibility, but this is not official yet. The dashboard will be redesigned and Edge will offer an optional third-row. The manufacturer will reveal more details in the coming weeks.
New Engine Still Just a Rumor
The next-gen 2023 Ford Edge could arrive with the new powertrain option. For a start, the current model offers two engines. The first one is a turbo-four variant with 250 horsepower. The optional V6 engine develops 335 horsepower. Now, the latest reports are strongly suggesting a 3.0-liter with 400 hp.
If this truly happens, we don’t know if the 3.0-liter engine will be optional or standard in the high-performance Ford Edge ST model. Another possibility is a hybrid powertrain, but this is not official yet.
2023 Ford Edge Release Date, Price
New 2023 Ford Edge will cost more than its predecessor. It is the new-generation model so its price will start at about $33,000. On top of that, the Edge ST version will become available for around $45k. Blue Oval will launch its new SUV this summer.
