The upcoming 2023 Ford Explorer SUV is going on sale by the end of the year. It is a very popular full-size SUV that comes with a recognizable design and great performances. As you probably know, the 2023 Explorer arrived with a redesign. The 2021 model was mostly a carryover, and the 2023 Explorer will get some sort of mid-cycle refreshment.
However, the Explorer model will arrive with the all-new off-road package and some other interesting upgrades. As before, Ford will opt for the same rear-wheel-drive architecture and the same engine lineup. Reportedly, Blue Oval manufacturer will improve the towing capacity and handling will be better than before.
New Off-Road Timberline Package
New 2023 Ford Explorer is getting a new package. It is an off-road Timberline package and the first spy photos are already available. Interestingly, Ford trademarked the Timberline name and we were expecting to see it in 2023 or in 2021. Anyway, Blue Oval decided to offer it now and the Explorer SUV will offer this impressive optional package.
We don’t know everything about the Explorer Timberline variant. However, it is an off-road package so Ford won’t deliver any surprises. Like the Tremor package, Timberline also offers all-terrain tires, skid plates, and minor suspension lift. On top of that, approach and departure angles are different and this SUV also looks beefier.
Interior Updates
The interior of the 2023 Ford Explorer will introduce additional interior updates. In our opinion, the new model will look more stylish and it seems like Ford decided to improve the comfort inside the cabin. There will be room for seven passengers, as before, which means the interior layout is unchanged.
The cabin comes with a sportier design, especially the ST variant. The 2023MY will introduce the newest safety aids and updated infotainment system. However, Ford won’t deliver larger displays or any sort of significant upgrade.
Explorer and Explorer ST Specs
The 2023 Ford Explorer will offer the same engine lineup as its predecessor. There will be four different outputs and the base one is a 2.3-liter turbo-four engine with 300 hp and 310 lb-ft of torque. A 10-speed automatic transmission is on offer, along with the rear-wheel-drive setup. The next powertrain is a hybrid system that combines a 3.3-liter V6 with an electric motor.
Total output is rated at 320 horses and 322 lb-ft of torque. The Platinum and ST variants are offering an impressive twin-turbo engine. This 3.0-liter V6 is capable of producing 365 hp in Platinum, and 400 hp in the Explorer ST version.
2023 Ford Explorer Price, Release Date
The price of the all-new 2023 Ford Explorer should remain. Thanks to that, this popular SUV will cost $33,500. On the other hand, the Platinum trim level is available for about $55,000. New Timberline package is still a mystery in terms of price. The sales will begin later in 2021 and Explorer will once again rival Toyota Highlander and Honda Pilot.
