The prototype of 2023 GMC Canyon has been spied recently, wearing a minimal camo. It is the second time that this popular truck was caught testing. However, thanks to a new batch of photos, we managed to see some refreshments. First of all, the Canyon will get improved styling and more standard equipment. Surely, this will make the next generation more competitive. The popular AT4 trim is available once again, offering a more robust appearance and better off-road abilities.
Unfortunately, most likely that the new Canyon will be powered by the same three engine options. As you probably know, there are two gasoline and one diesel engine. A hybrid system is also rumored, but officials are still quiet about it.
2023 Canyon Gets Improvements
The upcoming 2023 GMC Canyon will feature a mid-cycle facelift for the next year. At the same time, we can expect an all-new Colorado to arrive. Interestingly, both trucks will use a 31XX-2 platform, which is an updated version of the current 31XX-1.
The most important details of the prototype are up front. GMC Canyon will offer a new single-piece grille with more chrome around. Most likely that the spied model is a Crew Cab/Short Box version. It also wears the standard six-spoke 16-inch wheels, that are looking more stylish. The AT4 trim is available as well, and it will bring a more robust appearance. Besides, this model also includes an off-road package that will dress the new Canyon for more adventures. However, Denali trim is still is the most expensive, featuring more changes that will separate it from the rest of models.
Interior Upgrades
Inside, the 2023 GMC Canyon will be better than before. Generally, the cabin of this model already looks nice and modern. However, from what we heard, the manufacturer will make it more comfortable, and it will probably add some high-tech features. The layout will remain the same, and once again, extended cab and crew cab setups are available. Both models are offering a very spacious and comfortable interior.
For 2023, the GMC will introduce a new infotainment system that will be bigger than the current eight-inch touchscreen. Features such as Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Wi-Fi are available as standard equipment, which is great. However, if this is not enough for you, the Denali trim level offers more luxury and features for additional money.
Gasoline and Diesel Engines
Under the hood, the upcoming 2023 GMC Canyon will probably keep the same engines as the predecessor. There are precisely three available options. The first powertrain is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder unit that generates 200 hp and is available with a six-speed automatic transmission.
The more potent optionally unit is 3.6-liter V6 gasoline that cranks out 308 horses and up to 275 lb-ft of torque. The last powertrain consists of a 2.8-liter diesel engine capable of producing 180 horsepower and 370 lb-ft of torque. Unlike the base engine, optional ones are using an eight-speed automatic transmission. The hybrid variant is still just a rumor, and it won’t probably happen anytime soon.
2023 GMC Canyon Price and Release Date
The upcoming 2023 GMC Canyon will only receive mid-cycle refreshment. The current model costs around $25,000, while the new one will start slightly higher.
From some early reports, the redesigned truck could be around $2000 more than the previous generation. The Denali trim is the most valuable, offering many features. It starts at $41,000, and can easily fully equipped reach 50k. The new pickup truck version will hit the dealerships in the second half of 2021.
