The reason is a new 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. Moreover, this engine comes with the eTorque assist, which means Cherokee could offer a hybrid powertrain.
The most likely outcome is that all three units will be available at launch. We are waiting for Jeep to release exact engine specs and to confirm the diesel powertrain option. Yes, Cherokee will probably get a diesel engine as well. It is a 3.0-liter V6 engine that is available in Ram 1500 truck and it generates 260 hp and 480 lb-ft of torque.
