Various reports wrote about Ford and Rivian teaming up in the development of a new electric pickup truck. New Ford’s electric pickup was the subject of rumors for weeks. However, it seems that this venture will create Lincoln Electric Pickup Truck.
Lincoln is Ford’s luxury brand that produces very stylish sedans and SUVs for over a century. It is a first attempt for Lincoln in the all-electric segment. On the other hand, this brand already offers battery-powered vehicles known as hybrids.
Skateboard Platform
Of course, the brand-new pickup will be made on Rivian’s famous “skateboard” platform. This architecture is comprised of the lithium-ion batteries that are placed on the floor. Rivian is producing the very same platform at its plant in Illinois. On the other hand, no one knows yet where the Lincoln Electric Pickup Truck will be produced.
Ford Invested $500 Million into Rivian
The Blue Oval manufacturer entered the electric segment recently and it will offer 16 electric vehicles by the end of 2023. Furthermore, the F-150 EV pickup is already here, along with the Mustang Mach-E crossover. Moreover, Ford invested $500 million into Rivian last year. Now, the companies are working together on electric cars. Rivian stated the partnership will help the world toward the environmental-friendly modes of transportation. Besides Ford, Amazon also made a $700 Million Investment and purchased 100,000 electric vans that will deliver the company’s packages in the future.
What About Lincoln Electric Pickup Truck?
You can find a lot of rumors about the new Lincoln Electric Pickup Truck. No one knows what to expect. For a start, the first option is to revive the Lincoln Blackwood model that was based on the Ford F-150 pickup. It is one of the possible outcomes. This pickup also featured aluminum pinstripes, tonneau covers over the bed and numerous wood accents. It was a good model, but Lincoln’s timing was bad at the time. The second variant is to create a brand-new pickup that should be based on the Rivian R1T truck.
Either way, Lincoln will surely deliver another luxury pickup truck. We don’t expect anything futuristic and innovative. Instead, Lincoln will most likely opt for its well-known design language and the result should be a very stylish pickup with plenty of premium amenities. As for the performance, Rivian will take care of it as its R1T pickup truck comes with promising figures. That includes high torque ratings, impressive acceleration and much more. Lastly, the driving range will be at least 300 miles.
Lincoln Electric Pickup Truck Release Date
Specific details are not available yet. However, the Lincoln Electric Pickup Truck will surely go on sale in late 2021 or early 2023. The production should take place at Rivian’s plant in Illinois this year. The reports are predicting a stunning pickup truck with plenty of luxury. However, its price is still hard to determine. More details will become available later this year. And while Tesla continues to lead the segment, we expect Rivian to gain momentum through the support of other established manufacturers. That includes both Ford and Lincoln.
