Ford has big plans for its future lineup of SUVs and trucks. One of the models for the future is the brand-new 2023 Ford Maverick. What is it? Maverick is coming to compete in an unclaimed segment in the United States, the compact pickup segment. Interestingly, compact pickup trucks are popular in South America for years now.
We don’t know how the segment of tiny trucks will do in the United States, but Ford is ready to experiment. The latest photos are strongly suggesting the Maverick pickup. This model will hit the dealerships in a one-year time. We collected all the info about it, so here’s everything you need to know.
2023 Maverick Interior
Interestingly, but we know more about the interior of the 2023 Ford Maverick than the other parts. For a start, Maverick pickup shows the dashboard that looks closer to the dash of the arriving Bronco Sport SUV. The HVAC controls are almost the same too, along with the audio buttons and touchscreen options. However, the cabin design is different, including the interior layout.
The dashboard trim looks very upright as it combines gray and white materials. Maverick will offer a rotary transmission selector, although some rumors are suggesting a manual transmission. It will be interesting to see the final product, but Maverick looks promising for now.
Design
The first photos of the 2023 Ford Maverick are available. The prototype has been caught testing, alongside the mid-size Ford Ranger pickup. From what we saw, Maverick doesn’t look drastically smaller. We are talking about its height but Maverick clearly offers less ground clearance than the Ranger model. The arriving Maverick pickup won’t offer good off-road capabilities.
The photos are showing any sort of drivetrain attached to the rear axle, so this is a pickup for roads exclusively. We wouldn’t be surprised to see some sort of special off-road version, but that is less likely to happen right now. The Maverick model will ride on a unibody structure. Whatsoever, it is Ford’s C2 platform that also underpins Escape and Bronco Sport models.
Two Engine Options
The base 2023 Ford Maverick model will use a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine. This unit also powers the Transit Connect model and it generates 162 hp and 144 lb-ft of torque. A 1.5-liter three-cylinder turbo engine will be optional. Bronco Sport will use the same powertrain option as well. This engine is capable of producing 181 horsepower and 190 lb-ft of torque. The C2 platform supports an all-wheel-drive system.
However, this setup will be optional. It seems like the Maverick pickup will deliver great fuel efficiency, up to 30 mpg combined, according to some reports. We read a couple of speculations regarding the 2.0-liter EcoBoost engine with 250 horses. However, this engine could become available exclusively in some sort of high-performance variant.
2023 Ford Maverick Release Date, Price
The upcoming 2023 Ford Maverick is a small pickup truck, perfect for the city. It is an affordable option in the compact pickup truck segment so its price will probably start at around $20,000. The sales will begin by the end of 2021 and Ford will reveal more details in the near future.
