2023 Ford Maverick Compact Truck
2023 Ford Maverick – Ford revived Maverick’s name for his new small pickup truck and placed him into the lineup under a medium-sized Ranger.
Instead of sharing parts and mechanics with the Ranger, Maverick uses the same chassis as the Bronco Sport compact crossover.
2023 Ford Maverick Compact Truck
The standard powertrain will be a hybrid setup consisting of a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, an electric motor, a continuous variable automatic transmission, and a front-wheel-drive.
Ford will offer all-wheel drive, but only with an optional 2.0-liter turbocharged non-hybrid four-cylinder engine. All models will use the same four-door crew cabin body style as the 4.5-footbed. Maverick is part of a new class of small pickup trucks that Hyundai is entering with the upcoming Santa Cruz.
2023 Ford Maverick Models
Ford offers Maverick in three trims-XL, XLT, and Lariat-with XL being the best choice to keep prices as low as possible.
It lacks the basic creature comforts that most buyers consider necessary, but it would be good to use as a work truck. Using XLT adds 17-inch aluminum rims, cruise control, power lock for the truck body, powerful exterior mirrors, and more, making it a value-oriented model.
2023 Ford Maverick Engine
With the Bronco Sport turbocharged three-cylinder engine as the standard powertrain, Ford has switched to a hybrid with the Maverick base powertrain.
All trims will come standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder motor-assisted by an electric motor for the combined 191-hp.
This setting is only equipped with front-wheel drive and continuously variable automatic transmission. Buyers will be able to choose a nonhybrid powertrain as well, swapped in a 250-hp 2.0-liter four-cylinder and eight-speed automatic transmission; All-wheel drive is optional with this powertrain.
Ford Maverick Towing Capacity
Maverick offers a payload capacity of 1500 pounds and a towing capacity of 2000 pounds with a basic hybrid powertrain.
With four turbocharged cylinders and an optional Towing Package, Maverick can pull up to 4000 pounds. Want to pull even more with a small pickup? Santa Cruz is rated for attracting up to 5,000 pounds.
Fuel Economy
The EPA has not released fuel economy forecasts for Maverick. Ford claims that the Maverick hybrid will be capable of producing up to 40 mpg in the city. For more information on Maverick’s fuel savings, visit the EPA website.
2023 Ford Maverick Interior
All Mavericks are crew cabins, which means the four doors are full-sized and look like a relatively airy back seat.
Ford has included plenty of storage space and trash throughout the Cabin, including some large areas under the back seat.
The basic model is far from luxurious but offers standard comforts such as tilt-and-telescoping steering wheels with audio controls, remote keyless entry, and adjustable lumbar support for the front seat.
More features are offered as standard or part of a select package on XLT and Lariat trims. They include dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient interior lighting, and powered front seats.
Ford said the 4.5-foot Maverick bed could fit up to 18 pieces of 4×8-foot-three-quarter-inch plywood without having to load it obliquely.
The 8.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system is standard on all Maverick trims. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also standard features, and even the basic models come with onboard Wi-Fi hotspots.
Options include SiriusXM satellite radio, an improved B&O Play stereo system, and wireless smartphone charging capabilities.
Safety Features
Maverick will offer some driver assistance features, but many of the most sought-after items will require option packs or jumps for more expensive trim.
For more information on Maverick’s crash test results, visit the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the insurance institute for highway safety (IIHS) websites. Key security features include:
- Standard automatic emergency braking;
- Departure lane warning available with the help of lane guards;
- Adaptive roaming controls available.
2023 Ford Maverick Specifications
Maverick is a unibody truck built on a crossover platform. This makes it less capable than traditional body-on-frame pickups, but it’s also cheaper to make and buy and more efficient.
In Maverick’s case, he used Ford’s C2 platform and shared a lot with The Bronco Sport and Escape, who would share a production line at Blue Oval’s Hermosillo plant in Mexico.
The Maverick powertrain comes from the Escape and Bronco Sport lines. The powertrain is essentially a combination of a 2.5-liter I-4/electric motor that drives the front wheels via CVT.
This powerplant is associated with the Escape Hybrid powertrain (but with a new self-developed engine), producing 191 total horsepower in Maverick.
Ford said the Maverick Hybrid, which uses only front-wheel drive, will have EPA-estimated fuel savings of 40/33/37 mpg city/highway/combined and can travel up to 500 miles in a tank.
For those who want a little more power or all-wheel drive, the 2.0-liter Turbocharged EcoBoost I-4 from The Bronco Sport Badlands is optional on the Maverick.
As is the case with the Bronco Sport, it produces 250 hp and 277 lb-ft of torque and is paired with an eight-speed automatic.

Fuel economy forecasts will be revealed later, but our best forecast is around the mid-20s. The off-road-oriented FX4 package is optional on the EcoBoost all-wheel-drive Mavericks.

Mavericks front-wheel drive has a ground clearance of 8.3 inches, and the all-wheel-drive version has a distance of 8.6 inches.
The approach, break-over, and departure angles for Maverick are 20.6, 16.6, and 21.9 degrees for the front-drive version; Maverick’s AWD came in at 21.6, 18.1, and 21.2 degrees.

Still, you can expect a fully loaded Lariat or First Edition to reach about $35,000 or more. Maverick is expected to reach a Ford dealership this fall, and reservations and reservations can be made today.
2023 Ford Maverick vs. 2021 Honda Ridgeline
Ford Maverick Vs. Honda Ridgeline: Overall Utility
Let’s start with some basic numbers. The Ford Maverick is 199.7 inches long and has a 121.1-inch wheelbase; the estimated weight of the sidewalk is between 3,550 and 3,750 pounds.
The versatile Maverick FLEXBED is 4.5 feet long, expanding to 6.0 feet with the truck’s tub down. In contrast, the Honda Ridgeline has an overall length of 210.2 inches and rests on a wheelbase of 125.2 inches.
We weighed the Ridgeline Sport with HPD kits available, weighing 4,444 pounds. In addition, ridgeline beds are about 5.0 feet long, which widen to nearly 7.0 feet with a truck tub below.
Ridgeline offers 33.9 cubic feet of cargo space – excluding 7.3 cubic feet in a storage box under a lockable bed – while Maverick has 33.3 cubic feet. The passenger volume for Maverick check-in is at 100.3 cubic feet, while Ridgeline offers a maximum of 109.7 cubic feet.
Ford Maverick Vs. Honda Ridgeline: Performance And Efficiency
Ridgeline relies on a 3.5-liter V-6 engine that produces 280 hp and 262 lb-ft of torque for motivation. All-wheel-drive is standard, as is a nine-speed automatic transmission.
Maverick, meanwhile, is available with two powertrains. The basic gasoline-electric hybrid unit relies on a 2.5-liter four-cylinder gas engine and a pair of electric motors to propel the 191-hp to the front wheels.
A 250-hp 2.0-liter turbocharged I-4 is also available. More powerful options come as standard with front-wheel drive, but all-wheel-drive is available.
In terms of efficiency, Ridgeline siphons fuel at 18 mpg in the city, 24 mpg on highways, and a combined 21 mpg, according to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The EPA has not released fuel economy figures for Maverick.
However, Ford estimates the compact pickup will return the city’s 40/33/37 mpg/highway/combined figure when equipped with its hybrid powertrain. Automakers remain silent on fuel economy forecasts for turbocharged trucks.
Ford Maverick Vs. Honda Ridgeline: Towing Capacity And Payload
When equipped with an optional 4K Tow plan, Maverick can withdraw up to a maximum of 4,000 pounds. The payload capacity, meanwhile, stands at a maximum of 1,500 pounds.
Avoid tow packages, and small Fords attract a maximum of 2,000 pounds. Ridgeline, meanwhile, offers a maximum payload and towing capacity of 1,583 pounds and 5,000 pounds, respectively.
While the Mavericks front drive has 8.3-inch ground clearance, the AWD model welcomes an additional 0.3-inch ground clearance for a total of 8.6 inches.
The maverick FWD’s approaches, breakers, and departure angles are 20.6, 16.6, and 21.9 degrees, respectively, for Maverick front movers.
Adding an AWD increases that number to 21.6, 18.1, and 21.2 degrees. Honda’s Ridgeline offers a ground clearance of 7.6 inches, while approaches, breakers, and departure angles come in at 20.4, 19.6, and 19.6 degrees. If off-road is the key to buying your unibody truck, Ford seems to be a better bet—at least on paper.
Ford Maverick Vs. Honda Ridgeline: Price

The 2023 Ford Maverick XL will start at just $21,490 and be available in two higher variants: the XLT and Lariat, both available with an optional FX4 off-road package equipped with AWD turbocharged engines.
