Volvo XC90 Pickup Truck concept

The idea of the Volvo XC90 Pickup Truck isn’t crazy at all. Whatsoever, it makes perfect sense. The mid-size pickups are selling like crazy in the last couple of years, especially in the US. XC90 crossover-SUV is the perfect basis for a good-looking pickup truck, no doubt about it. So far, we’ve seen new renderings that are looking incredible.

Some rumors are even writing about Volvo introducing a concept of the arriving pickup. On the other hand, Volvo pickup in the US would be hard to sell as there are too many respective pickup manufacturers. Here’s how the new XC90 Pickup Truck could look like and what it brings on the table.

XC90 Pickup Truck Renderings

Newest renderings of the Volvo XC90 Pickup Truck didn’t surprise us at all. It looks perfect and the pickup could gain a truly premium design. Of course, this model will borrow a lot of cues and features from the XC90 crossover-SUV. That includes an elegant design with plenty of modern cues. The wheelbase would be different, along with the shorter overhang. The back of the cab hosts a small roof spoiler which looks more than interesting. Normally, the production model will be different but the shape seems to be more than plausible.

Fitting the bed shouldn’t be a problem, but a longer bed could make trouble for the Swedish manufacturer. As you can see on the renderings, the bed creates a slightly awkward look. The wheelbase will be similar to the wheelbase of the Honda Ridgeline and Nissan Frontier pickups. The platform is another mystery. However, Volvo is working on a hybrid model, so the architecture will surely provide a good fit for the hybrid system.

Powertrain Options

It is another interesting issue to discuss. New Volvo XC90 Pickup Truck will most likely borrow engine lineup from its crossover-SUV sibling. That includes a range of potent and thirsty V6 and V8 engines. Turbo-four gasoline is available in three different outputs, T5, T6, and T8 variants. T6 output has been rated at 300 hp while the T8 delivers up to 400 horsepower.

On the other hand, the highlight should be a hybrid powertrain. That is plenty of power for a mid-size pickup so we don’t think Volvo should consider stronger powertrain. Hybrid completes the lineup thanks to its fuel efficiency. Whatsoever, Volvo’s conventional gasolines are offering below-average fuel economy ratings.

What About the Rest of the Vehicle?

Again, the crossover-SUV model will have a great impact on the arriving Volvo XC90 Pickup Truck. It is a luxury SUV that is available in three trim levels and two seating configurations. Base trim level offers 19-inch wheels, LED headlights and a panoramic sunroof. Moreover, the Volvo XC90 is full of driver-assistance aids. The Swedish manufacturer is known for its impressive safety ratings and various advanced systems. The interior is very elegant and the pickup version will continue in the same manner. Handling is impressive and overall, driving manners are superb.

Volvo XC90 Pickup Truck – The Concept

We’ve seen the renderings photo and concept of the Volvo XC90 Pickup Truck is still just a rumor. The latest reports are saying that the Swedish automaker will introduce the concept later in 2020. Until that happens, we can’t say anything more about this model. It would be interesting to see the concept that largely departs from the current Volvo’s design language. Thanks to that, a pickup truck will look more unique and probably even more impressive.
